2-for-1 deal

April 2017 News & Events

Not only are you getting the April 2017 issue of Hi-Tech Security Solutions delivered to your doorstep, but this month we are sending you the CCTV Handbook 2017 as well. How lucky can you be, you get extra reading to keep you occupied over the April public holidays.

This year’s CCTV Handbook covers a lot of ground, but one of the focus areas is the spate of cybersecurity issues the industry is facing. People who have ignored basic security principles at installation are finding their systems are really open invitations for hackers, whether they are after access to the corporate network or simply having fun. We would appreciate your comments on how the industry should be reacting to these new vulnerabilities.

There is also much more in the handbook which we hope you enjoy.

In this issue of Hi-Tech Security Solutions we look at IP access control as well as cloud computing, so there’s no escaping the nasty world of cybersecurity. If you have the right skills, apparently there are millions of jobs open for cyber experts around the world. Of course, if certain people who seem hell-bent on reducing South Africa to a ruinous shell succeed in their endeavours, we won’t have to worry about being hacked as there won’t be anything left to steal.

On the topic of jobs, we received some feedback to the article I wrote in the February issue “A place for old men”. It seems there are younger people looking to get into the security industry, but they aren’t being given a chance to prove themselves. Moreover, investors seem more interested supporting almost any other industry before security. How that happens in a country with the criminality we find in SA is a mystery.

And let’s not talk about issues like mentorship or skills development. And best we don’t mention some people with world-class skills who can’t get a job because the only openings available want a lifetime of experience while offering entry-level salaries.

Anyone have any ideas on how we can create a thriving industry with a place for everyone?

We hope you enjoy both the April issue of Hi-Tech Security Solutions and the CCTV Handbook 2017. As always, send comments, criticisms and suggestions to [email protected]

Andrew
