SanDisk MAX ENDURANCE microSD card

September 2026 Smart Home Automation, Products & Solutions

As edge recording increases in the surveillance market, especially in home surveillance products, keeping recorded video on-camera and available when needed, or when transferred to storage servers, is critical.

SMART Security Solutions received a 128 GB SanDisk microSD card for the video surveillance market to test. The SanDisk MAX ENDURANCE microSD card is available in various configurations, from 32 GB up to 256 GB. Naturally, you can use the card wherever microSD cards are needed, such as in dashcams, smartphones, or even a laptop with the appropriate card slots.

Conveniently, the microSD card comes with an adapter, so it fits into slots designed for other cards. The MAX ENDURANCE microSD card is compatible with devices that support microSDHC and microSDXC slots, and the adapter supports devices that use full-size SD, SDHC, or SDXC slots.

According to SanDisk, the 128 GB card can hold up to 60 000 hours (over 6 years) of Full HD footage; of course, higher resolutions, such as 4K, will reduce that number. The company says read speeds of 100 MBps are possible, and our testing showed slightly lower speeds, but that was while the card was in use, not purely reading data. It also promises 40 MBps write speeds, which is more than enough for a single camera.

SanDisk also says the card is “temperature-proof, waterproof, shockproof, and X-ray proof”, which is useful, especially when traversing Johannesburg’s potholed roads with a dashcam. The card’s operating temperature ranges from -25°C to 85°C, while the storage temperature is between -40°C and 85°C.

While not included with the card, SanDisk also offers 2 years of its RescuePRO Deluxe file-recovery software, helping ensure your video (or any) data is backed up. The software is readily available from the SanDisk website.

On paper, the card’s warranty is impressive, ranging from 3 years for the 32 GB microSD card, to 15 years for the 256GB device (https://tinyurl.com/3yuebxx6). However, read the warranty terms carefully if you plan to use the card for continuous recording in a surveillance camera or dashcam. (It goes without saying that careful reading of the warranty terms should be standard for any device from any brand.)

While we could not test the card for 6 years, it is simple to use and works. Given the range of storage options and the adapter, the MAX ENDURANCE microSD card should be on the list for those looking for storage for cameras and dashcams, or even for a young person addicted to recording everything on their smartphone (and those not-so-young smartphone fans).
