RDC sprints ahead

June 2007 News & Events

RDC transmitter sales recently hit the million mark. The company that was first out of the starting blocks is still leading the race, it seems. We take a closer look at the technology and value-added services that have made RDC win gold again and again.

Being first has been the hallmark of Radio Data Communications from day one. The company's original transmitter, launched in 1978, was the first that could send a signal in under a second. This was followed by other firsts: the single frequency/multiple repeater system, the X-20 rolling code and the multi-user system. Today, the radio technology harnessed by RDC is still number one: it remains the standard format for security installations. The reasons are simple: proven reliability, low equipment cost, no data transmission charge and no monthly subscription fees.

Today's line-up of RDC products, technologies and services is eloquent proof that the company's focus on staying ahead remains razor-sharp. Existing features have been steadily improved, new combinations of systems produced and brand-new products introduced. It takes only a glance at these to understand why RDC has become the brand of choice for thousands of security companies countrywide.

The most advanced radio networks on the market today

RDC offers two systems: the entry-level 8102 MSK and the advanced 8102 IPRS. Both use a new high-speed format that slashes transmission time to under 100 ms. The IPRS offers several additional features: it sends signals on a direct path to the base station and frees up bandwidth for expansion. IPRS allows up to 30 repeaters to be supported per network, increasing both coverage and range.

Two rigorously tested transmitter models

Performance of RDC's feature-packed TX650C and TX690C synthesised transmitters has been analysed under demanding real-life security conditions, and constantly improved. Both models are fully programmable in the field.

New combined transmitter/control panel

Despite its compact, easy-to-install dimensions, the cutting edge TX PIMA can report a greater amount of additional data than any other model, and with no increase in airtime per signal. Moreover, telephone and radio reporting are supported simultaneously, allowing transmitter interface failures to be reported instantly via telephone.

RDC TX-Pack - security on the move

This all-in-one panic alarm system combines a long-range transmitter, whip antenna and lid tamper switch with an independent power supply, transformer and battery, ensuring that the system is completely standalone. The TX-Pack is thus ideal for installations where frequent power outages occur, as well as situations requiring a portable security alarm system, eg, estate agents at show houses, old age homes, guards on the move and cash points.

Early-response Unit: a dramatic new approach to safety

Saving a minute can mean saving a life. This innovative monitoring system sends alarm signals to response vehicles as well as the control room. Customer details can be viewed in the car, allowing officers to react immediately and cutting out control-room processing time. The system comprises an integrated receiver/decoder and a separate display head for the dashboard.

Value-added services that set RDC apart from the rest

Although RDC's success is powered mainly by its technology, the company justifiably prides itself on its many value-added services. "Our company slogan says it clearly: we offer more than just technology. We are acutely aware that our equipment is designed to protect lives, and we therefore help ensure that our clients' systems operate efficiently," says Lee-Ann Andreka, RDC's sales and marketing director. To this end, the company maintains a round- the-clock technical backup line and also keeps pre-tuned transmitters in stock, ready for delivery to all major centres.

Other value-added services help to simplify the technical and administrative aspects of running a security company. RDC offers free technician training at its in-house training facility, free frequency usage (the company operates frequencies countrywide for its clients) and free frequency management. This last service handles ICASA applications and licence administration. "Clients often underestimate the technical complexity and hard work of frequency management. Our team works full-time on this and takes the load off clients' shoulders," states Andreka. "In fact, with everything we offer - our technology and our value-added services - we are constantly trying to help our clients do their job better."

All of which makes one fact clear: RDC is not about to rest on its laurels after racing past that 1 000 000th transmitter milestone.
