If you are in retail, you have probably heard the best practice guidelines and all the good advice on how to get the most out of your CCTV installation. Now is your chance to hear from someone who has played an important role in foiling a syndicate and has spent endless hours in court using CCTV footage to convict criminals
Attorney Juan Kotze will be speaking at iLegal 2013 to tell us about the latest win against a crime syndicate and CCTV’s role in it. But that is not all. Kotze will also be looking at what retailers should be doing to ensure their CCTV coverage is not simply a nice way to see what happened after the fact, but to identify people and processes used by the criminal element.
Back by popular demand, iLegal 2013 will be taking place on 14th March 2013 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Rosebank, Johannesburg. As always, iLegal 2013 promises to be the leading event of the year for everybody involved in the use, operation, installation and implementation of any aspect of surveillance, from security managers, executive managers, IT leaders and technology providers and installers.
In recognition of the effort Kotze and others played in stopping the syndicate, the Consumer Goods Council (CGC) of South Africa hosted an awards ceremony in February to pay tribute to those involved. As explained by Spar’s Keith Alexander, the operations of the syndicate were streamlined and professional. There were no guns, no deaths and no trauma, simply a slick operation that netted millions in stolen money every month from a variety of retailers.
Central to the successful prosecution of the case was the CCTV footage taken at the Vorna Valley Spar, although other stores were also involved in supplying footage to identify the criminals. Get more information and some pertinent tips on how your CCTV systems can be used to effectively fight back at iLegal 2013.
