The 2010 FIFA World Cup Organising Committee of South Africa held a Safety and Security Integrated Planning Workshop at Monte Casino, Johannesburg on 25 and 26 February.

The South African Local Organising Committee chief security officer Linda Mti, chaired the workshop.

A hundred delegates attended the workshop, representing organisations such as the Security Industry Alliance, Host Cities, the National Intelligence Agency, Local Organising Committee Managers, SA Police Services and the Safety Secretariat.

A special word of welcome was extended to Ron Delmont, head of FIFA South Africa, Helmut Spahn, who was involved with the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany and SAPS National Deputy Commissioner, Andre Pruis.

The purpose of the workshop was: sharing of information pertaining to safety and security preparations for the 2009 Confederation Cup and the 2010 FIFA World Cup; the mapping of a process for the formulation of integrated security and safety plans; the alignment of safety and security plans of the key role players; budget and resource requirements; and areas of co-operation and roles and responsibilities.

"All in all the safety and security planning and organisation for both the 2009 CAF Cup and the 2010 FIFA World Cup is progressing well and the South African Local Organising Committee is to be congratulated in this respect," says Terry Scallan, who attended the event.
