New generation wireless: the next big thing in security

July 2005 Perimeter Security, Alarms & Intruder Detection

A new generation wireless alarm system has been launched by Paradox Security Systems for the top end of the property market, namely exclusive estate and residential developments.

New wireless technology is more robust; has longer battery life (2-5 years); signal strength of detectors is displayed on keypad; features remote battery and check in supervision; multipackage transmitting overcomes loss of signal due to intermittent interference; has low battery tamper and check in supervision; and is aesthetically pleasing.

Through intensive research and constant product testing, initial problems such as false alarming and limited facilities have been overcome completely.

Apart from blending flawlessly into contemporary architectural environments, wireless has two features that appeal to security technology dealers and end-users alike.

Wireless technology means that exclusive home décor does not need to be damaged in order to install an alarm system; and installation time is reduced by up to 75%, thus reducing the need for extra labour, while also greatly reducing comebacks.

Wires, by their very nature, are prone to environmental damage and are time- consuming to fix. Eliminating the use of wire in the security system therefore greatly reduces the chances of system failure, effectively ensuring the safety and peace of mind of the end-user.

Modern architectural trends for exclusive residential development complexes often feature tile flooring and solid concrete ceilings, making the use of wiring and traditional alarm systems very awkward or even impossible.

Upmarket clients are also often hesitant about disrupting their routines with excessive drilling, wiring and working in their home environments.

A quick installation process is therefore key to cracking the market, with the added benefit of more than tripling the service provider's work capacity - without frustrating and counter-productive call-backs.

An example of Paradox's innovative advancements is the Magellan Receiver Module. This ingenious device converts all Paradox panels to hybrids. This means that one has the choice of using either wired and/or wireless security systems.

Detection on this unit comprises of normal analog, digital pet immune passives and outdoor infrared passives. Three different wireless door contacts and a digital smoke detector complement the functionality of this unit.

The Magellan Console is an all-in-one wireless security system that combines high security, ease of use and unique added-value consumer benefits.

Being a transceiver, it allows for two-way communication with Programmable Output Modules. This allows for automation and the alarm's status being displayed on the Remote Control Transmitter. Presently, this feature is being adapted to the Magellan Module, which will add even more authority to the reputation of the Spectra and Digiplex alarm panels.

Paradox Security Systems are available through Spectrum Communications.
