A trailblazing quarter century in 2018

May 2018 Editor's Choice, Conferences & Events

Specialised Exhibitions Montgomery is proud to present the 25th edition of Securex South Africa 2018, Africa’s leading security and fire trade show, taking place at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand from 22 to 24 May 2018.

“Security – both on a physical and technology level – is top-of-mind for many companies and individuals on the African continent,” explains Sven Smit, portfolio director at Specialised Exhibitions Montgomery. “And over the past 25 years, Securex SA has become a pivotal point on the local industry’s event calendar, positioning itself as the ideal platform, not only to unveil new products and services, but also to foster the broader African security conversation.”

Securex’ 25th year is being celebrated with all things new, says Smit. “We’re pleased to announce that Securex 2018 will include almost 50 first time exhibiting companies, allowing us to showcase the best in world-class security-related products and services, from access control, biometrics, CCTV, cyber and IT security, fire detection and prevention systems, through to perimeter fencing and protection, retail security, training, vehicle and personnel tracking devices, X-ray scanning and screening equipment and more.

“Many of our exhibitors are using Securex to launch new solutions into the marketplace, so we are anticipating a lot of interest around new innovation within the sector.”

Visitors can also look forward to 20 brand new topics featured within the Securex 2018 expo’s free-to-attend seminar theatre. Sessions include highly topical seminar sessions such as ‘The future impact of AI in cybercrime’, ‘The year of data regulations: 2018 and beyond’, ‘Investing in the future of young security professionals: mentorship programmes driving skills development’, ‘Surveillance Insights: 2018 market report’ and ‘The SME toolkit: marketing, accounting and basic business acumen for security installers’. The full programme can be found on the Securex website.

A first for Securex is the introduction of a Cyber Lab, powered by XGRC Software, aiming to create an area where awareness of information security can be raised, through an interactive approach. The Cyber Lab will reveal a stereotypical ‘hacker’s bedroom’ setup, taking visitors through a number of practical scenarios that could affect both work and home life. There will also be an interactive demo area, where attendees can review and get to grips with a real-life example of an information security management system (ISMS).

“We’re pleased to confirm that the South African Intruder Detection Services Association (SAIDSA) will be joining the celebrations, honouring its own 50th birthday at Securex SA 2018, as well as holding the Tech-man competition at Securex once again, with SAIDSA-certified technicians pitting their skills against one another in a practical challenge. In addition, Pseudo Scent and Dogs SA will hold live demonstrations of highly trained security and detection dogs.”

Securex 2018 is co-located with A-OSH EXPO, Africa’s leading occupational health and safety (OHS) exhibition. Visitor entrance to both shows is free.
