Stanley steps up a notch

May 2011 Integrated Solutions

Stanley Security expands its integration services with new building management division.

Stanley Security Solutions South Africa, a subsidiary of Stanley Security Solutions, an international security operator with a presence in North America, Europe, South Africa, Asia, and Australia, has launched a new division in South Africa. The Stanley Building Management (SBM) division is set to expand the company’s scope of operation beyond its traditional time and attendance and access control areas of expertise, to offer full integration services.

SBM will specialise in building complete Building Systems by putting together components from different vendors. Unlike software developers, SBM is not going to produce any original code. Instead, it will use off-the-shelf hardware and software packages to meet the end users’ building needs, implementing open standards such as Bacnet, Lonworks and OPC etc.

Stanley South Africa already boasts an installation base of more than 16 000 sites throughout the country.

The company will also not be restricted to its own hardware technologies, but will add to its product portfolio additional best-of-breed technologies such as C-Cure and American Dynamics from Tyco. This will enable it to complete large-scale projects that integrate traditional security systems, such as access control and CCTV, with energy-efficient business solutions the company will offer, such systems as Tridium. Integrating these systems will be done with open protocols such as Bacnet.

Heading up the new division is Tim Timmins, who says SBM is in the process of gearing up its staffing to improve its sales and technical skills. SBM has already in the process of completing two successful installations at two large companies in South Africa. SBM has installed a full building management solution at the SA Post Office (SAPO), and is busy with a fully integrated access control and CCTV solution in the FNB regional headquarters in Port Elizabeth.

While Stanley has a full team of sales and technical professionals on board, Timmins is in the process of cementing relationships with a range of consulting engineers with an eye to expanding the new division’s customer base. Ultimately, Stanley plans to be recognised as one of the top integrators in southern Africa. Being one of only five integrators in the country accredited to sell Tyco’s C-Cure solutions is a sign of the division’s intentions.

Timmins who has 24 years experience in the buildings controls industry believes the timing of the new division is right as customers today are looking beyond security products and technology silos. Customers today want holistic, integrated solutions that meet their security and business needs as well as the growing demand for energy efficiency. Moreover, they want to deal with one supplier that has the ability to solve their problems quickly and efficiently, delivering quality service as a norm.

Stanley South Africa is currently headquartered in Johannesburg and has branches in Durban, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, plus a network of accredited distributors nationwide. The company also offers support and service through its call centre on a 24-hour basis.
