Effective integration for effective protection

April 2010 Integrated Solutions

One of the buzzwords in the industry at the moment is convergence.

The integration of disparate technologies to create integrated and converged solutions encompassing Life Safety and Security has become the aspiration of many product and service providers and the prerequisite of end users and consultants alike to satisfy the drive for more functionality with reduced cost of ownership. Technology in the SA security industry, often led by the manufacturers, is quickly adapting to this evolution of technology, taking great steps forward, to meet these requirements led by market expectations.

The Bosch Group has been moving towards offering full solutions and convergence of its Security System’s products for more than 10 years. From the early days when Detection Systems was bought into the Bosch Group, the company has been moving towards a single source option for Life Safety and Security.

Shortly after the acquisition of Detection Systems, the products formerly manufactured by Philips Communication and Security division also joined the Bosch Portfolio. These product ranges immediately catapulted Bosch into the top five manufacturers of safety and security products. The technical expertise behind the product development and support was also transferred to the Bosch stable, ensuring continued quality and innovation. Other acquisitions (and emphasis on research and development) that have followed over the years have enhanced the product portfolio, making Bosch the obvious choice for installers and integrators needing to extend their skills and competence to meet the demands introduced by the trend towards integration under single or multiple systems.

The Bosch Full Solution allows the opportunity for virtually seamless integration between access control, fire detection, CCTV, voice evacuation and public address systems. Our partners have the opportunity to expand their knowledge and ability to respond to broadening requirements of solutions quickly and more cost effectively under a single brand.

System designers and architects are increasingly challenged by having to contemplate the complexity of multivendor converged and integrated solutions delivered through multiple contractors, specialised in a narrow range of products or only one aspect of the project requirement. This system design stage will become more complex as convergence advances towards full integration.

Through the implementation of the Full Solution approach the consultant can expect better continuity throughout the design and implementation phases, either from a Bosch full solution installer, or through multiple Bosch installers, as topics of interoperability and the frustration associated with the integration of disparate systems is highly reduced.

Operations and maintenance, long after the project has been concluded becomes simpler. Life cycle management of a combined and integrated portfolio is also facilitated by the single supplier option, as continuity and reliability of disparate integrated systems often fail due to the effects of inevitable change management, lack of version control and interoperability issues, as one system (or part thereof) is upgraded at the expense, or without the consideration of the other.

Bosch Security Systems remains ahead of most of its competitors when it comes to offering Full Solutions from a single manufacturer. Combined with unequalled technical support, at design and implementation, comprehensive hands on product training, and backed by direct support from the product design and application team, it is able to lead its partners towards system convergence with confidence.

The right combination for the Ultimate in Protection.
