Leading South African security product supplier, Elvey Security Technologies, is set to continue its industry dominance with the recent launch of the new DSC PowerSeries panel.PowerSeries panel.panel.

Elvey commercial director Dave Waywell lauds the new product, which he says outperformed its competition in the havoc wreaked by Hurricane Katrina in the USA last year. Testimony to DSC's impressive performance was the praise heaped on its products from installers, who said the PowerSeries was the only system that seemed wholly unaffected by the widespread damage caused to homes, businesses and alarm systems throughout the USA during the disaster. Quoting Rob Guttentag, CEO of DSC Canada, Waywell says thousands of DSC installations were up and working perfectly with minimal intervention and within days, compared to the host of others which still today are eating up installers' time in the wake of continued replacement and overhauling.

"Our engineers applied this same tradition of attention to detail before they put the DSC name on our new, future-smart platform. It has been rigorously tested internally, has acquired all the key listings worldwide, has been successfully market-tested in the UK for the past six months, and is now ready for the rest of the security world to embrace," says Guttentag.

With an impressive 16-branch national infrastructure, Elvey is ideally positioned to bring the latest in security technology to its client base, which extends throughout South Africa and southern Africa, says Waywell.

Exceptional value: more than 100 new features

Explaining DSC's motivation behind its newest offering, Waywell says the intention was to design a control panel that would set the benchmark for tomorrow's security needs. "Different models of their existing line-up could accommodate various emerging security needs, but the engineers felt it would be better for distributors and installers to be able to meet a wider range of needs across the spectrum and within a smaller range of models."

Installers would also find it easier to order and, at the same time, limit control panel upgrade call-backs as a result of having to add new features to customer security systems. "This would allow distributors to manage inventory and improve service to installers," says Valerie Bingham, Elvey's intrusion product manager.

Value surge

The new DSC PowerSeries provides higher levels of security than ever before, with all three panels compliant with the SIA CP-01 false alarm prevention standard and EN50131-1/3. The new range supports wireless, video, IP (Internet Protocol), wireless communicators and home automation. It also provides added headroom for the future, and features a 500-event buffer, programmable daylight savings time, night zone, automatic Contact ID and partitionable auto-arm timer.

According to Bingham, the DSC engineering team spent several years working with key customers to develop a platform that would strike a balance between advanced technical innovation and popular, practical systems that were easy to sell, install, program, upgrade and use. "DSC's security team has planned for a very simplified transition from the existing platform to the new one by maintaining the same programing, backward compatibility and total support while vastly improving the value for customers," says Michael Brett, Elvey's DSC product specialist.

Innovation renaissance

The introduction of the next-generation PowerSeries was one of the big stories at ISC West 2006, a premier international exhibition hosted in the USA this year, because it represented history in the making, says Waywell. "DSC has done it again with 14 new control panels and interfaces which offer installers and end-users more than 100 new features. The brand has reasserted its reputation for leading change and the company has proven once again that listening to customers makes for very strong partnerships."

In addition, he adds, the new Power Surge is broadly symbolic of the re-emergence of DSC's engineering laboratories as the dominant innovation force in the security industry.
