'Buy from Asia, sell to Asia' is what SecuTech 2005 was all about, and the show, held at the Taipei World Trade Centre from 31 March to 2 April, certainly lived up to that as 14 352 visitors and over 500 exhibitors extended trading power into and out of Asia.
SecuTech, now in its eighth year, served as a platform for each and every aspect of the security industry, showcasing more than 1500 security-related products and solutions, and facilitating interaction and networking aplenty among manufacturers and suppliers.
In the words of Erdal Goksen, general manager of BiGes, a distributor from Turkey, "The show is excellent! We came here in search of new CCTV and access control products, and we easily found what we were looking for."
Jack Wu, general manager of Tyco Fire & Security Taiwan, which exhibited at the show, says, "I talked to many people who attended the show, and no matter whether a guest or an exhibitor, all the feedback is positive about this show. I believe this has been the best SecuTech to date."
With 1000 booths totalling 18 000 m2, visitors were able to find out more about the best manufacturers from Korea, Japan, Taiwan and China who were competing with big international names like GE, Tyco, Honeywell, HID and many more. Product categories featured in the show included IP surveillance, CCTV, access control, intrusion alarm, intercom and biometrics security. SecuTech Expo 2005 proved to be the place for global buyers to compare, source products, find partners, and upgrade business competitiveness.
Trends at the Expo were notably towards total integration of solutions, IP surveillance and biometrics.
Exhibitions within the Expo included the IP Surveillance, CCTV, Access Control and Intercom/Intrusion Pavilions as well as the BioAsia Gallery.
Coinciding with SecuTech was Fire & Safety Taipei, consisting of the Taipei International Fire and Safety Show, Taipei International Construction Fire Protection Annual Conference and Taipei Industrial Safety and Health Week. This show covered both passive and active fire protection and associated products and systems.
iSecuTech Taipei 2005: Info Security Celebration focused on three main themes namely Info-security Services, Network Security and Content Security and boasted exhibitors such as CA, IBM, RSA, HP and McAfee.
Several 'forums' were hosted covering such topics, among them the Global Digital Surveillance Forum, the BioAsia Biometric in Security Symposium, RFID and Security Conference, the Hi-tech Fire and Safety Management Forum and the Info Security Forum.
The RFID and Security Conference, coined 'The Mega Mix of RFID and Security', was a new feature at SecuTech and the aim was to reflect the exciting move of RFID technology into the security arena.
Making its fourth appearance at SecuTech, the Global Digital Surveillance Forum consisted of three tracks. The first - How IT giant foresees the advances of IP/network surveillance - featured Intel's Eric Chan as the keynote speaker. Track 2 - Top brands' application intelligence of IP/network surveillance - included an array of speakers from the likes of Axis, Bosch, GE, Honeywell, Pelco and Tyco. The third track involved product presentations from two of Taiwan's top IP surveillance suppliers.
In a nutshell, SecuTech Expo 2005 was proof that the Asian security industry is certainly one of undeniable growth.
