April 2005 Access Control & Identity Management

A welcome new release from Security City at the Securex show was the Max garage door opener.

This 12 V system with battery backup provides for about 60 operations of a garage door from a 7 A-hour alarm battery in the event of a mains power failure.

The unique garage door opener works well on both roll-up and sectional garage doors and is supplied with options for a left- or right-side door installation kit.

Clever design ensures a smooth, efficient and quiet operation as it pulls the garage door open or closed. This is because the leverage is applied simultaneously and evenly to both sides of the garage door.

The new electronic control board has an integrated circuit that automatically sets the door travel with no need for limit switches. Setting the door opening and closing pressure for child safety is a breeze with a single variable resistor adjustment.

Except for the electronic components used on the control board, all items of the kit are locally made.

Max is easy to install and virtually maintenance free. There are no extrusions or complicated mechanical components to worry about.

Drive is provided by one of the most tried and tested motor-gearbox combinations in the world and the link chain has a nifty automatic tensioner.

Approximately 200 mm of wall space is required between the side wall and the door for mounting the motor and drive system.

Sales outstripped supply capacity within four days of the release. Manufacturing and supply capacity is being ramped up to meet this surprising and unexpected demand.

Expect a long and trouble free life from this hot new garage door opener.

Interest was strong from as far afield as Singapore, Europe and the USA. The export potential for this product is exciting and should result in Max becoming a good foreign exchange earner for the country.
