Supporting security officers

CCTV Handbook 2022 Surveillance, Integrated Solutions

Keith Lawrence, BetaTrac Telematic Solutions.

Body-worn cameras (BWC) provide a wide range of benefits to security companies and BetaTrac has recently seen a substantial increase in demand.

A clear recording of a security incident makes prosecution easier as it cuts out the reliance on human recollection of events, incomplete or inaccurate notes and anecdotal testimony.

It also provides valuable real-life recordings that are extremely effective in the training of new guards as well as more experienced personnel. In addition, Betatrac has recently noticed a new trend where body-worn cameras have proven effective in clearing the behaviour of security staff.

While on duty at residential estates it is not uncommon for guards to be called on to assist in the control of noisy parties, drunken behaviour or even domestic confrontations by residents and guests. Under such circumstances tempers often become heated and accusations of indecent or improper conduct by the intervening security officer may follow.

A good quality recording of the events as they occurred have cleared many security officers and it has now become essential for security companies to use BWC for this purpose.
