HID Global launches optical fingerprint reader

Issue 4 2021 Access Control & Identity Management

HID Global has unveiled a new look for its DigitalPersona 4500 optical fingerprint reader. Providing the same functionality as its predecessor, the new DigitalPersona 4500 is a fast and easy-to-use optical USB fingerprint reader in a compact form factor that is aimed at desktop or point-of-sale environments.

Optical fingerprint scanning technology is used to achieve excellent image quality, a large capture area and superior reliability. A silicone coating allows it to read a wide range of fingerprints accurately and rapidly, regardless of placement angle. The high-quality metal casing resists unintentional movement.

To use, simply place a finger on the reader window and the reader quickly and automatically captures and encrypts the fingerprint image before sending it to the DigitalPersona FingerJet biometric engine for verification.

Claude Langley, regional sales manager – Africa, Extended Access Technologies at HID Global, commented, “The lockdown has had a significant impact on organisations in the country. While many encourage their employees to work from home, it poses a number of security risks. With the DigitalPersona, it is possible to offer new levels of protection and to make sure to secure the digital identity of your entire remote workforce, as well as protect access to networks, applications and data.”
