Peritec infrared beams offer superior primeter protection

June 2000 Perimeter Security, Alarms & Intruder Detection

Irenco, a subsidiary of Denel, has for many years now been a key player in the perimeter protection business. With its locally manufactured dual infra and multibeam systems, the company believes that it can price its products competitively, reinforcing this with good service.

According to Irenco's Jenny Sadler, "Irenco manufactures two different types of systems, namely dual infrared beams and multibeam systems."

Dual infrared beam-based systems offer a dual beam of invisible infrared approximately 16 cm apart, reducing false alarms as both beams need to be broken simultaneously in order to trigger an alarm. Comprising a receiver and transmitter set (12 V d.c.), Irenco's dual infrared beam systems cater for a variety of ranges from 60-100 m and 200 m.

Says Sadler, "The beams can be easily aligned by using a conventional voltmeter with the stacking of two sets giving users a broader cloak of protection."

Other features include sealed optics to eliminate dust and insects causing alarms; weatherproof housing; tamper switches standard; and heaters available for extreme conditions.

Multibeam system

"Irenco's multibeam system is the ultimate in perimeter protection," says Sadler. "A wall of beams in three different heights can easily be implemented. A 1,5 m enclosure with four beams per zone, a 2 m enclosure with five beams per zone and a 2,5 m enclosure with six beams per zone."

All three heights have a length range of 150 m per zone and are not affected by weather conditions like fog, dust storms, rain, etc. The multibeams have a 90% attenuation.

System basics

"A number of columns (enclosures) surrounding the premises with a mixture of receivers and transmitters synchronised to zones, are the basics of the system. Each column can house three lines of sight allowing for corner of bordering zones to share one enclosure for two zones," she adds.

The enclosures are a robust aluminium alloy extrusion, powder coated and satin black in colour. Heater modules are standard in each column to prevent moisture build-up which is thermostatically controlled. Heaters are available in AC or DC. They also boast sealed optics for the prevention of dust and insects.

Other Key features include:

* Adjustable interruption time from 40-250 ms triggered by two adjacent beams being blocked.

* Lightning protection modules in each column protect all input/output lines against surges making the system suitable for most industrial applications.

* Each column is fitted with an alarm output which is individually wired back to a control room identifying which zone or column has been activated.

* Alignment is done with an audible alignment tool or a conventional voltmeter.

* The system is powered by 12 V d.c., making it compatible with any alarm system, but a UPS is recommended in case of power failures.

Says Sadler, "With such a sophisticated system, one must understand that each multi- beam system is individually designed for the site and therefore there is no set pricing on the system. Prices are obtainable on request."

Concludes Sadler, "Typically we would need a rough sketch of the area to be protected to calculate and design your personalised system. Due to the individual design of each system, a delivery period of 6-8 weeks is applicable. We have no doubt that a multibeam system is by far the most superior perimeter protection system available today. The perfect solution to protect your business premises, your valuable home or any area that could be a high security risk."
