Wavetrend, Electrisade form alliance in 'intelligent' fencing initiative

August 2002 Perimeter Security, Alarms & Intruder Detection

Two local security companies - Wavetrend, a specialist in radio frequency identification (RFID) and Electrisade, an electrified perimeter fencing manufacturer - have formed a business alliance to provide customers with intelligent fencing solutions.

Not only does an intelligent fence prevent unauthorised intrusion thanks to the 10 000 V and the realtime monitoring that surge throughout its structure, the Wavetrend powered hardware and software combination adds people monitoring, asset management and access control to the total solution.

Electrisade has installed fences at strategic sites including Eskom power stations and sub-stations, SAPS high sites (antenna repeaters) and National Intelligence. "We specialise in electrified perimeter fencing and gates at high security applications as well as the lower end of the market. However, to add value we have decided to join forces with Wavetrend to provide a more holistic solutions that includes monitoring of individuals and an efficient access control system," says Armand Terblanche, MD of Electrisade.

He says the range of solutions from Wavetrend can be utilised effectively ranging from an access control system at gates through to monitoring zones along the perimeter of a fence to accurately define specific areas where unauthorised access is attempted. Wavetrend's RF-based passive or active asset management systems using tags, readers and repeaters complete the holistic solution.

These solutions may be enhanced further with the use of trunking data whereby the guard-room at a company's head office for example - or an armed response operation - can monitor remote sites via an open data network.

Colleen Murphy, marketing manager at Wavetrend, says the alliance with Electrisade opens new markets for both companies. "We have seen a dramatic surge in the demand for turnkey solutions at industrial plants, strategic sites and commercial enterprises. Our partnership with Electrisade addresses this need effectively and price competitively," she says.
