Three decades of access automation

August 2019 Access Control & Identity Management

30 years of manufacturing experience in South Africa has resulted in ET Nice’s range of access automation technology becoming a preferred brand. Sales and marketing executive Gerald Kirsten explains that in addition to providing high-quality, locally-focused access automation and security products, the company’s success can also be attributed to its mindset.

Based in Observatory, Cape Town, ET Nice’s development and production facility is where it designs and manufactures South Africa’s favourite garage door operator range – DC Blue Advanced; the rugged and reliable drive slide gate operator range; as well as the ET Blu Mix transmitter and receiver range – the only transmitter in Africa that has an unhackable code and a lifetime warranty.

Such was the renown of ET Nice (formerly ET Systems) that in 2015 Nice S.p.A bought the company. This move allowed Nice to expand its footprint into Africa through a well-established and experienced local company, while simultaneously providing ET Nice with access to the expertise and resources of a large international group. ET Nice undertakes its own mechanical development, industrial design, electronic design and PCB layout, and software development.

“We strive to create freedom, by simplifying everyday movement through the use of our products and the seamless integration of all access and security systems. We believe security means being free, not being caged in. Our aim is therefore to create ‘a world without barriers’,” says Lauro Buoro, founder and chairman of Nice S.p.A.

“We embrace the reality of being South African and therefore our products are designed, manufactured and supported by a South African team. We bring our experience with working in arduous and demanding environments to the table, while the Nice Group, based in Oderzo, Italy, lends an international flavour to our endeavours. Our locally developed products are fully featured, durable and reliable to endure issues like load shedding and power spikes. Our products are therefore designed to enable installers to offer the best of both worlds to their clients in a simple and logical manner,” says Kirsten.

Kirsten explains that the company’s products are designed to be modular and this, together with proactive aftermarket support through its seven national sales branches, allows its local installers to effectively deploy, operate and maintain the products. “We are also the only company in South Africa that offers a lifetime warranty on our transmitter range. Our transmitters are designed and built to allow for unexpected drops and knocks, without compromising on their integrity. This, we believe, is a critical element in the assurance of safety and security.”
