Residential Estate Security Conference 2019: Risk or product assessment?

1 July 2019 Conferences & Events

The Residential Estate Security Conference 2019 will be held on 20 August 2019, once again at the Indaba Hotel in Fourways, Johannesburg. This year will see a variety of specialists addressing various aspects of estate security, from manned guarding through to technology, the integration of the two, as well as the ways in which artificial intelligence can enhance your security without costing a fortune.

All security starts with a security risk assessment (or it should), and Andy Lawler, well known South African independent risk assessor and fly-fisher extraordinaire is set to deliver a presentation on what exactly a risk assessment entails. Andy will show that a risk assessment has nothing to do with products or technology, but focuses on identifying your areas of vulnerability and proposing solutions that will make your estate safer.

And the assessment doesn’t stop with the presentation of a report. Once the risk mitigation suggestions have been implemented, the assessor should be called on again to make sure everything was done properly and the risks are effectively dealt with.

In a tough economy where every penny counts, ensuring your estate and its residents are safe is one of the best ways to boost the value of the fixed assets in the estate while also ensuring that the human assets get to enjoy the lifestyle they desire for themselves and their families. This knowledge takes security from being a grudge purchase and turns it into a real and measurable investment.

Andy admits that a proper security risk assessment is an onerous task, but is not something estates can consider optional or a luxury item anymore. More importantly, once you know where your biggest vulnerabilities lie, you can deal with them and confidently assure residents that they are indeed living in a secure estate.
