LiDAR specialist appoints first SA distributor

June 2018 News & Events, Surveillance

Duxbury Networking has signed a distribution agreement with US specialist vendor Quanergy Systems, a provider of next-generation 3D LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) sensors and perception software.

The deal, the first to be concluded with a local distributor, will see Quanergy’s smart sensing solutions made available to users in South Africa and throughout Africa.

Teresa Huysamen, a business unit manager at Duxbury Networking, says Quanergy’s offerings, such as Q-Guard smart security solutions, are at the forefront of key commercialisation areas in terms of price, performance, reliability, size, weight and power efficiency. They also meet the mass deployment requirements of durability and dependability.

Q-Guard is a complete LiDAR-based security system for perimeter fence monitoring and intrusion detection. It enables real-time 3D mapping, object detection, tracking and classification.

“Simulating a virtual fence, Q-Guard substantially reinforces perimeter security for critical infrastructure and valuable resources,” says Huysamen. “It comes complete with one or multiple LiDAR-based detection sensors and a perception software module for object tracking and classification.”

The system is designed to analyse the object detected, track its movement, classify its type to determine whether it’s human or non-human, and alert the security agent. Q-Guard also has ‘slew-to-queue’ capability to alert and guide cameras to the area of detection.

Huysamen says the Q-Guard solution includes the M8 long-range LiDAR sensor enabling the use of smart sensing in a wide range of situations. The M8 sensor boasts a 360-degree field of view, long measurement range, high accuracy, fine resolution and works well in light or dark environments, in addition to operating effectively in all weather conditions.

Qortex is Quanergy’s perception software platform. Pioneering a new level of smart awareness, the core platform serves as the main technology framework compatible with Quanergy’s full suite of LiDAR sensors.

Qortex is modular, scalable and incorporates machine vision, deep learning and 3D perception proprietary algorithms to produce one of the first integrated security-targeted software and hardware platform solutions.

“Quanergy will add a further layer to Duxbury’s portfolio of surveillance solutions, she says. “Because Quanergy’s LiDAR solutions are designed to integrate into existing security infrastructures, it is an easy fit to add them to our existing surveillance offerings or market them in conjunction with our range of Axis cameras, Milestone IP-based video management software and network video recorder solutions.”
