Safety equipment supplier and manufacturer, MSA Africa, has merged with Computerised Telemetry Technologies (CTT), specialist in fire detection equipment. Ron Anderson, Managing Director of MSA Africa says, "The South African mining industry has had very little choice over the past 40 years in terms of what products they could implement with their existing fire detection systems.
"MSA Africa intends introducing the latest technology, products and systems to this market, providing mining customers with the flexibility and range of choice that their industrial colleagues have been accustomed to for decades." The merger affords the southern African mining industry affordable environmental monitoring choices for the first time by offering universally acceptable communication protocols and hardware.
MSA Africa will offer a range of digital, analog and frequency output sensors for combustible and toxic gases, which can be connected to a range of controllers, PLCs and scada packages, well suited for new mining applications.
Projects have also been started to provide intermediate hardware solutions, whereby up-to-date gas and fire detectors can be operated on the existing mining control systems.
CTT has for several years provided fire detection expertise and products to the mining industry in southern Africa. Currently, CTT are registered vendors to Harmony Gold Mines, JCI, Randgold, Driefontein Consolidated (Goldfields SA), Kloof Gold Mining Company (Goldfields SA) and ERPM in Boksburg. The company offers service and support to the above, as well as on-site call-outs to repair and maintain fire detection systems.
