Turnstiles that never sleep

March 2017 Access Control & Identity Management

Restonic boasts over 31 years’ experience in the mattress manufacturing industry and currently employs over 300 people at its Johannesburg factory near Gold Reef City. A product of humble of beginnings, the Restonic name has become synonymous with attention to detail and quality. The superior bedding products, which have become a household name in South Africa, are manufactured to the highest standards.

A small, highly experienced management team drives product consistency through high levels of productivity and employee focus. In 2015 Restonic merged with the KAP Group to become part of the integrated bedding division. This allows Restonic to leverage the logistics network developed by KAP, to the benefit of customers.

In 2015, ISO 9001:2015 accredited Turnstar, provided the newly constructed Restonic factory with three double turnstiles and this was recently followed with an order for a further double turnstile and two single turnstiles.

Craig Sacks, CEO of Turnstar, says that not only do turnstiles offer enhanced security levels, by ensuring that only authorised employees and visitors enter Restonics’ premises, but furthermore, they enable the company to keep close tabs on employee hours worked. The easy flow-through of employees is critical to ensure that employee time is maximised. Reducing the infamous bottlenecks that typically occur when employees arrive for work at the same time as their fellow workers, is a huge benefit for employers like Restonic.

Based on the success of the three double turnstiles previously supplied by Turnstar, Restonic decided to completely automate the entry and exit points for pedestrian traffic with the addition of the latest physical access aids.

Sacks explains that an emphasis on longevity and durability are hallmarks of the company’s products. Production is carried out by state-of-the-art CNC machinery and robotic welding, all of which result in products of the highest quality and to the tightest of tolerances. An added benefit to customers is that Turnstar turnstiles operate with all forms of electronic access control and time and attendance systems. Customisation is key here and, depending on customer requirements, the turnstiles can be provided with pushbutton controls and remote transmitters.
