Turnstar receives ISO 9001:2015 accreditation

As part of its ongoing strategy to ensure the highest quality levels in its locally designed and manufactured physical access control products, Turnstar has received ISO 9001:2015 accreditation. This certification was awarded after an audit conducted by SGS.

ISO 9001 is based on the Plan-Do-Check-Act methodology and provides a process-oriented approach to documenting and reviewing the structure, responsibilities, and procedures required to achieve effective quality management in an organisation.

Changes introduced in the 2015 revision are intended to ensure that ISO 9001 continues to adapt to the changing environments in which organisations operate. Some of the key updates in ISO 9001:2015 include the introduction of new terminology, restructuring some of the information, an emphasis on risk-based thinking to enhance the application of the process approach, improved applicability for services, and increased leadership requirements.

A quality management system (QMS) is a formalised system that documents processes, procedures, and responsibilities for achieving quality policies and objectives. A QMS helps coordinate and direct an organisation’s activities to meet customer and regulatory requirements and improve its effectiveness and efficiency on a continuous basis. The benefits to customers are underpinned by products manufactured under a strict set of international guidelines to the highest quality standards, using equipment which is developed to perform specific tasks and in facilities that are governed by adherence to both safety and quality principles. The result is reliable, durable and long-lasting products.

“We constantly seek ways in which to improve customer satisfaction at our 7700 m² manufacturing plant in Johannesburg. We have invested quite heavily in high-end manufacturing equipment to ensure that quality levels are maximised. Technological musts for us include a CNC lathe and milling machine, a robotic welder as well as a brand new sheet and tube laser cutter,” says Turnstar CEO, Craig Sacks.
