Arecont appoints first rep on South African soil

August 2015 News & Events

Arecont Vision has appointed its first direct employee in South Africa. Andre Ellis, previously at Bytes, has taken the position of regional sales manager for sub-Saharan Africa.

Ellis says his role in the region is to bridge the gap between the factory and the end user. He will be selling the vision of Arecont to users and consultants throughout the region, helping to create demand for the brand. Fulfilment will be done through three distributors, Elvey, ADI Global and Pentagon.

Arecont has started its brand building in the country by being part of the recent Elvey roadshow as well as at the Milestone MPOP event in July. Ellis says more of these events will be happening where Arecont will work with partners, such as VMS partners, to extend its brand recognition in the region and show potential users the capabilities of its products.

The company targets all verticals, Ellis says Arecont has a camera for every application. He wants to demonstrate that Arecont can deliver multi-megapixel solutions that reduce the number of cameras that need to be deployed without compromising the resolution of the images or the area covered.

He explains that in many situations, anywhere up to six traditional cameras can be replaced with one Arecont device, which will only require one cable to connect it and one software licence in the VMS. The cost savings and complexity of such a solution are self-evident. All Arecont cameras are vandal resistant, rated IK10, as well as IP66 rated against dust and water.

The appointment of Ellis is the start of a more aggressive approach by Arecont in the region and the company has high growth targets. While available in South Africa in the past, Ellis says there was no direct presence and hence no person who was passionately marketing the brand. This has now changed.

For readers who may not be aware of the Arecont range of products, the company’s cameras are the standard for companies like Google, Apple and Microsoft. Ellis will be demonstrating why the brand is so highly regarded to users and consultants across the region over the coming months.
