Capitalising on the growth of IP

July 2015 Integrated Solutions

Bitz Technologies was started in 2004 by Andre Meintjes as an IT solutions provider. Meintjes leveraged his existing experience in the IT field and quickly grew the company and its reputation. With the very apparent growth of IP technology in the security arena, Meintjes explains that in 2008 the company decided to review its existing business modus operandi.

“We identified the growing trend to incorporate IP surveillance cameras in existing and new installations in place of the traditional analogue cameras. The market was quickly realising the advantages of deploying IP security technology in their installations. This was due to the fact that in some instances, existing analogue technology was no longer supported. However, the biggest benefits derive from the future proofing of the systems as well as the ability to integrate numerous security systems, building management systems and other business systems,” says Meintjes.

He says that the company quickly mobilised its expertise and launched into the new arena of IP security technology. “I think that in many instances it is easier for a business with an IT background to enter the IP security technology sector than it is for a security business to become familiarised with the IP technology. We were excited about the possibilities provided by a shift towards IP technology and we geared up to embark on our entry into this market sector.”

Today the company, headquartered in Pretoria, employs 17 people, of which 14 are technicians and engineers with a large combined portfolio of projects under their belts. The company deploys a number of technicians to the various sites on which it is working to ensure a smooth transition process from design, through implementation, commissioning, to training and maintenance.

Main focal areas are the integration of IP CCTV, access control and alarm systems to the large corporate, government and mining sectors. Registration with PSiRA as well as certifications from Softcon, Milestone, ADI and Geovision, underline the company’s focus on exemplary quality of both products and customer service.

Meintjes points out that the quality of service provided is ensured through systematic site inspections by senior members of the team, as well as regular and ongoing training of the team. He explains that in addition to internal training, the technical team visit suppliers for training on new products, solutions and trends. “In this way we continuously keep pace with the latest best practice and we are able to translate this into superior installations for our customers.

“We also transfer this knowledge to our customers when we install and commission systems. It makes no sense to install high-tech equipment then leave the customer’s team to struggle with its operation. Similarly, we like to familiarise them with all the value added benefits of each piece of equipment so that their system is optimised,” he continues.

Meintjes says that the company has completed a number of key projects in South Africa, including BMW Rosslyn, the SABS, the Pretoria National Library as well as contracts for Aquarius, Anglo, Samancor and Gautrain. Bitz currently has numerous service level agreements in place with mines and corporate clients across South Africa.

The aim going forward is to identify additional market sectors and to open branches in the main centres like Cape Town, and the Eastern Cape. He adds that if the opportunity arises, the company would also be happy to expand cross border.
