Thermal imaging cameras with analytics

October 2014 Surveillance

Graphic Image Technologies (GIT) has announced the availability of the latest range of dvtel thermal imaging cameras, which incorporate analytics for enhanced intelligence. Available in both fixed and pan-tilt models, the dvtel thermal surveillance cameras incorpor-ate ioimage analytic encoders to deliver rich surveillance, ideal for low-light or zero-light environments as well as night-time surveillance operations.

“Thermal imaging solutions are ideal for harsh environments such as those affected by fog, haze, smog, rain or extreme temperature variance and areas that are very dark at night, where standard surveillance cameras do not perform well. The dvtel cameras feature a low-power, lightweight design with multiple lens options, with analytics to enable activity monitoring such as movement, camera tampering, removal of items and more,” explains Laurence Smith, executive at GIT.

The dvtel range of intelligent cameras feature enhanced intrusion detection, including regional entrance detection, tripwire detection and fence trespassing detection to automatically detect prohibited movement scenarios, as well as autonomous Pan Tilt Zoom (PTZ) tracking. Object Removal detection helps to prevent theft by detecting the removal of stationary objects, while Stopped Vehicle detection sets off an alarm if vehicles enter or stop in a controlled area. Loitering Detection detects when a person remains in an area for a prolonged period of time, and tamper detection provides notifications if video signal quality degrades or is cut off, if visibility is low, or if the camera position shifts.

“There are many applications for intelligent analytics in a surveillance solution, including perimeter monitoring and enhanced after-hours security. In addition, advanced features enable improved security in a wide range of applications. For example, features such as unattended baggage detection are ideal for airports or even mining and manufacturing. This functionality sets off an alarm when an item is deposited in a controlled area and detects disguised objects, but which ignores items attended by a nearby person, helping to improve safety and reduce the number of false alarms,” Smith adds.

The dvtel Thermal range offers good performance in low-light, no-light or difficult weather conditions, with Video Graphics Array (VGA) or Quarter Video Graphics Array (QVGA) resolution. The cameras are available in fixed and pan tilt (PT) models in either nine or 30 frames per second (FPS) with multiple lens options. The cameras come bundled with ioimage analytics, offering enhanced image processing for optimised analytic performance. They include 2 gigabytes (GB) of local storage and a tamper-resistant IP66 enclosure.
