Safe cities and safe security personnel

1 June 2014 Conferences & Events

iLegal 2014 is just around the corner, set to be held on 5th August 2014 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Rosebank, Johannesburg. One of the topics on this year’s agenda is Safe City: Key factors in effective city surveillance.

In this presentation, Lucas Holtzhausen, general manager at Safe City Msunduzi will discuss the importance of stakeholder involvement, consistency of operator skill and performance, and innovative technical ideas that have sustained the enduring performance and cost effectiveness of the Safe City operation in Pietermaritzburg. The successful management of these issues has made it one of the model operations in the country.

Safe City Msunduzi is one of the few long-term success stories in South Africa’s history of trying to secure lives and property in its cities. If you are responsible for the safety of cities, towns, or even large areas involving different buildings and businesses, this is a presentation not to be missed.

Another growing trend worldwide is the use of wearable or body-worn cameras. Howard Griffiths, MD of Security Service Consultants will be looking at the implications of wearable body cameras for crime protection strategies.

When making the decision to use wearable surveillance, you need to be concerned with more than the technical specifications. Griffins will discuss what needs to be considered in terms of how they can be used as part of an overall crime prevention strategy. He will talk about some of the key issues faced by the people wearing the cameras are, as well as the issues those responsible for sending them into their working environments face.
