Canon introduces its network cameras in South Africa

November 2013 News & Events

Canon’s product range in South Africa has been expanded by the inclusion of video surveillance technology. The company has achieved success with these cameras in other EMEA territories over the last couple of years.

The requirement for high quality video surveillance has been growing on a daily basis to the extent that the demand for network cameras has increased considerably over the past few years. This offers Canon an opportunity to introduce a product in the high-end surveillance market.

Canon’s network cameras benefit from a 70-year heritage in lens design. Canon incorporates multiple double-sided aspherical elements to produce maximum optical performance, including outstanding wide-angle performance and zooming. Canon’s lens and image processor technology ensures the highest image quality and focusing and also provides a true colour reproduction. Good low light performance ensures that night time monitoring can be done efficiently.

With the inclusion of DIGIC DV III image processor used in some of Canon’s state of the art cinema broadcast system and professional camcorders users will always get exceptional performance on all networking cameras. This would also include DIGIC NET II network processor chip which delivers multiple HD video streams.

The products have been designed to cater for an extended range of markets with the main product line including a 1.3MP series and full HD series. The series comprises of the following: Pan tilt zoom, outdoor dome, indoor dome and fixed box cameras.

In September 2013 Canon launched a new compact series of cameras specifically designed for shopping malls, retail stores, hotels, offices, educational institutions, health care, banking and finance. The Canon VB-S30D is the smallest full HD PTZ camera currently on the market. These cameras are designed to be more cost effective, unobtrusive and still offer full HD video.

Braam Steyn, business development manager – network cameras, Canon South Africa said: ‘’It is with great enthusiasm that Canon South Africa is introducing the network cameras to the South African market. We are looking forward to developing partnerships with the channel to ensure that the end-users can benefit from this latest technology.’’

Canon South Africa has partnered with local distributor Security Warehouse.
