Hikvision provides French hotel security

July 2013 Surveillance, Entertainment and Hospitality (Industry)

When both domestic and international travellers arrive in Paris, they expect luxury and privacy surrounded in a quiet blanket of unobtrusive security.

Yet, for hoteliers, this is a dichotomy not easily overcome. However, the Parisian sense of fashion provides an apt roadmap: an elegant suit should not draw attention from the individual; instead it should highlight them.

And in this specific case, for Paris’s Sofitel Arc de Triomphe Hotel, this is both a requirement for customers’ satisfaction, and both the guests and hotel’s security. And, this is where Hikvision brings value. Specifically, the DS-2CD793PF-E 4CIF Vandal-proof Network Dome Camera.

The Sofitel Paris Arc de Triomphe is a hotel located next to the Arc de Triomphe and Place de l’Etoile, a mere 15-minute walk from the famed Avenue des Champs-Elysées. Nicolas Jdanoff, Novadis sales manager stated: “The Sofitel Paris Arc de Triomphe required something special, high quality camera resolution for a variety of external and lighting environments, all within a discreet design. This is where the DS-2CD793PF-E excels.”

This single Hikvision camera model is tasked with the hotel’s main hallways, emergency exits, and interior corridors leading to guests’ rooms. As a jack-of-all-trades, the DS-2CD793PF-E must both overcome a variety of challenging differing environments. “Obviously, tremendous resolution is paramount for hotel security, we have to know who is going where,” related Jdanoff.

To accomplish this goal, 4CIF real-time video in H.264/MPEG4/MJPEG video compression provides the resolution needed; as does the concurrent 3-axis adjustment ability to track these individuals.

However, as with any hotel, the SOFITEL Arc de Triomphe’s indoor areas offer both tempting and potential dangers for security equipment. It is not uncommon for guests, or unwelcome visitors, to take advantage of this situation. To overcome this temptation, the DS-2CD793PF-E vandal-proofing deters any potential threat.

Indoors and outdoors

Due to the nature of this solution, this Hikvision camera is singularly tasked with both indoor and outdoor environments. Jdanoff noted: “Often, solutions of this nature would be forced to use a variety of cameras and different camera manufacturers. Fortunately for both Novadis and the Sofitel Paris Arc de Triomphe, Hikvision manufactures one versatile model.” Illustrating this are a day/night auto switch and super-low illumination, two features allowing coverage within artificially-lighted internal hallways and naturally-darkened external exits.

Features, such as Sony’s high-performance 1/3-inch Sony CCD, provide the required security; yet Hikvision’s unobtrusive dome design gently blends into the background for the discerning clientele.
