Identix Bio-Sentinel software provides complete staff tracking via fingerscan verification.

October 99 Access Control & Identity Management

Bio-Sentinel access control, personnel tracking and ID badging software, in consort with Identix TouchLock fingerscan readers and Fingerlan software, enhances the safety and security of physical access control with irrefutable information on the location of every user.

Bio-Sentinel is a biometric software program that maintains a database of staff members, vendors, inmates and inmate visitors who are signed on to a network of Identix TouchLock fingerscan readers for physical access at high security facilities. Bio-Sentinel and the Identix TouchLock readers replace the often cumbersome and lower security base CipherLock units or ID-card based systems.

Bio-Sentinel supports numerous personnel and visitor categories and once enrolled, the user's location and movements can be monitored continuously by fingerscan verifications and even by failed access attempts at TouchLock readers throughout the secured facility. Multiple outputs can be driven by the TouchLock readers to facilitate the opening of doors, turning on or off alarms, video cameras, lights and other access control tools.

"Because Identix biometric solutions utilise the unique characteristics of the human finger, a person's identity and access authorisation cannot be transferred to any other person, nor can it be stolen, written down or compromised," emphasises Bill Spence, Vice President of Identix BioSecurity Physical Access Control Division. "This ultimately means that an institution's security and access systems cannot be subverted, breached or bypassed."

Bio-Sentinel grants users access to assigned TouchLock readers during specific time periods referred to as timezones. It also sets and maintains timezone settings for each of the TouchLock readers on the network. A user transaction outside the primary timezone will trigger the timezone exception alarms and reporting.

Through analysis of the transaction database created by Identix Fingerlan software, Bio-Sentinel maintains information in realtime on the location of each user relative to the secured perimeter. Reports such as User detail, Time zone exception, Secured perimeter, Transaction and Database change log are included.

Optional ID badging software enables the design and production of customised ID badges complete with photograph and selected demographic information. Wanted posters may be generated in the same program.

Founded in 1982, Identix pioneered the development of fingerscan identification systems. Through Identix BioSecurity Physical Access Control Division, over 24 000 fingerscan readers in 50 countries help secure government and executive offices, airports, schools, banks, prisons and other organisations requiring heightened access control.
