Certified public address systems

February 2013 Infrastructure, Products & Solutions

The Premium-sound Cabinet Loudspeakers and XLA 3200 Line Array Indoor/Outdoor loudspeaker series from Bosch have been granted EN 54 certification by the relevant accredited bodies. Bosch Security Systems has long been a leading supporter of international standards for security equipment and was one of the first to champion the EN 54 norm for voice alarm systems.

Originally introduced as a European standard for fire alarm systems, EN 54 has gained in importance and now also covers voice evacuation in response to the growing market trend towards the integration of fire alarm and voice evacuation systems. The subordinate EN 54-24 specifies the requirements, testing methods and performance criteria for loudspeakers used in fire detection and alarm systems that broadcast warnings to the occupants of a building.

The standard defines common requirements for the construction and robustness of voice alarm loudspeakers, while also testing their performance under climatic and mechanical conditions.

With the continuous expansion of its range of EN 54-24 certified models, Bosch can provide loudspeakers for the full spectrum of audio applications, both indoors and outside. The newly certified Premium-sound cabinets are intended for the clear reproduction of speech, as well as foreground and background music in general indoor and outdoor applications.

The range of Premium-sound Cabinet Loudspeakers consists of two models offering a choice of 20 watt or 50 watt power handling capacity, and their robust enclosures are made of aluminium with ABS top and bottom covers, and are available in charcoal or white. The cabinets can be mounted horizontally or vertically by means of a steel U-shaped wall bracket. With their directivity and high power output, XLA 3200 Line Array loudspeakers are ideal for large reverberant environments, such as airport departure lounges, station buildings and conference venues. They are equally suitable for outdoor use, for instance on railway platforms or in sports venues. Moreover, the speakers embody the XLA (eXtended Listening Area) concept, creating a clear, full sound which is distributed evenly over a wide area.
