Integrated security where you need it

October 2012 Integrated Solutions

Most organisations inevitably have a number of security systems in place to protect their investment in technology. The problem is that these systems have traditionally operated independently of one another across both wired and wireless connections.

The solution is to integrate security systems so that they work harmoniously to provide organisations with both internal security for IT environments using passwords, magnetic cards and biometric systems, as well as external perimeter protection using motion detectors and alarm systems. Biometric systems, such as real-time face-recognition solutions, are playing a crucial role when it comes to access control.

“With modern developments in both IP networks and physical security systems, it is now possible to link various networks to ensure your systems work cohesively, providing live security information, including possible breaches,” says Nicholas Shaw, general manager for advanced infrastructure, Dimension Data Middle East and Africa.

Taking an integrated security solution approach will ensure that organisations are able to integrate their security systems with their business systems. An integrated security solution is capable of centralising physical and logical access control, intrusion systems, video surveillance, IP surveillance, lighting control, power management and building management systems. An integrated approach also ensures that existing investments in security, such as cabling, analogue and IP devices, IP CCTV and IP telephony are not wasted.

“Adding further versatility to security systems, we are able to migrate existing security systems from analogue to hybrid analogue, and from digital to full IP-based deployments. This includes the provision of centralised power management to improve resilience and minimise downtime. Organisations stand to benefit from secure access to all necessary information with a broad range of devices, improved real-time threat responses, and simplified management of security systems,” he adds. The end result is that companies seeking to consolidate or centralise their physical and technology-based security systems stand to reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) experience, while being equipped to deal proactively with security compliance issues.
