Kingston secures USB data

Taking it with you securely.

The Kingston DataTraveler 6000 (DT6000) USB Flash drive protects sensitive data with US Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 Level 3 validation and 100% encryption. This device is suitable for financial service organisations and government agencies that need the strongest data protection in mobile storage devices.

The DT6000 utilises patented Secured by Spyrus technology, which supports 256-bit AES hardware-based encryption using XTS block cipher mode. XTS is the latest generation technology that provides much stronger protection than other block cipher modes such as CBC and ECB modes. The DT6000 also uses military-grade elliptic curve cryptography (ECC), which is recommended by the US National Security Agency (NSA) as part of its Suite B set of cryptographic algorithms.

On testing the DataTraveler, Hi-Tech Security Solutions found the device easy to use. When first installing the hardware, an application automatically runs which allows you to set your password. No data can be read or written to the USB drive without entering the password when the drive is installed. After entering the password, the drive functions like any memory stick, apart from the fact that the data is encrypted.

If you forget your password, you cannot access the data and the only solution is to reformat the drive, assign a new password and copy your data onto the device again. A process made easy by the onboard software.

The DataTraveler is a great way to take large amounts of data with you, without worrying about losing your USB drive and seeing your sensitive data falling into the wrong hands.

Along with the DT6000, Kingston has an extensive family of secure DataTraveler USB Flash drives to match the security needs for all levels of enterprises:

* DataTraveler 4000: Designed for high-value corporate deployments, the DT4000 provides FIPS 140-2 Level 2 validation, at an affordable cost.

* DataTraveler Vault Privacy (DTVP): Optimal for sensitive enterprise environments with 256-bit AES encryption.

Prices range from R717,00 for the DataTraveler 6000 2 GB Secure USB, to R1922 for the DataTraveler 6000 16 GB Secure USB. Kingston’s secure USB Flash drives are backed by a five-year warranty and 24/7 technical support. For more information visit http://www.kingston.com/ukroot/flash/secure.asp
