DSG's 25th birthday

April 2012 News & Events

The Durban Security Group (DSG) is celebrating its 25th birthday. DSG is a dynamic organisation providing security guards, various types of electronic security – including biometric time and attendance – as well as criminal record checks and specific investigations.

DSG started trading in 1987 with just two security guards and has grown into a well run company with national capabilities. The DSG head office is in Morningside, Durban, with a 24-hour control room monitoring client sites as a back up to guards in the field, as well as live electronic patrols, burglar alarms and off site CCTV monitoring. Recently, the company has been given licence to carry out criminal record checking.

DSG was founded by Pieter Cloete. Cloete’s police career started in the BSAP Rhodesia as a station commander controlling the border that joined SA.

Cloete later immigrated to South Africa and joined Chubb. He was later headhunted for Rennies electronic division, then transferred to Fidelity which is part owned by Rennies. The division was later sold off to Springbok Patrols. He then started DSG (1987).

Security has always been a passion for Cloete. He is passionate about people and believes inspirational leadership goes a long way. He also serves on the board of trustees for Khulani Haven (an orphanage) and has been passionately involved there for 12 years.
