A successful workshop, sponsored by HiTech Security Systems, was held at Traders Restaurant, Randburg on 30 May. The workshop attracted 28 people.
Associate Editor of HiTech Security Systems, Gerard Peter, explained Hi-Tech's involvement and support of the FDIA whilst Managing Editor, Darren Smith, expanded upon Hi-Tech's plans for future projects with the publication.
A paper was presented by Peter Davy of the FPA regarding South Africa's position with Halon and its potential phase-out and the purpose and operation of the Halon Bank. Paul Wright of AST introduced Pyrogen, an aerosol generator product which AST are distributing and the various applications of aerosol generators. New ideas and future projects were also discussed for the FDIA:
* Maintenance contracts: A common service/maintenance contract be drawn up legally to protect the interests of the FDIA members.
* Bad payment register: The constant threat of builders 'going bust' or deliberately not paying their subcontractors is a coming major concern for the fire detection installers. Discussions were held for the formulation of a 'bad payers' register'. This can be extended to cover suppliers against poorly paying fire detection contractors.
It was decided that the FDIA committee will add these concerns to their schedule for the forthcoming months.
