Wired doors

July 2011 Access Control & Identity Management

Three strikes and you are secure.

Electric strikes are a common component within electromechanical door systems. They are characterised by speed, durability and longevity. ASSA ABLOY’s line of electric strikes is suitable for a variety of applications.

Since 1990 Trimec Technology, has been supplying products to the access control industry. The mainstay of the early business was the ES2000, being the first strike to be interchangeable from Fail Safe to Fail Secure. Today the Trimec brand is an integral part of ASSA ABLOY Australia. It has grown in size and product range and now produces a complete portfolio of electro-mechanical locking products for any application.

Trimec products are covered by Trimec’s Tricare product warranty. All Tricare protected products come with a 5-year return to factory warranty from date of manufacture. The date of manufacture can be determined by looking at the Tricare sticker which indicates the month and year of manufacture.

How do you select the correct strike? This depends on a number of factors. What level of security is needed? What type of door material is the strike to be fitted to? Single or double door? Is monitoring of the strike required? What power supply unit is to be used in the system? Is the system AC or DC? What else is running off the PSU?

Level of security

There are three basic categories.

1. Light: normally with no quoted holding force or life. Usually AC and used for low cost door entry systems.

2. Medium: Holding force of at least 1000 lb with guarantees of two or three years.

3. High: Holding force of at least 3000 lb with guarantees of up to five years. Some are available with UL approval.

In South Africa, the Trimec brand is sold exclusively by ASSA ABLOY.
