Turnstar looks ahead

July 2011 News & Events

Turnstar is a continuing local success story.

Employing almost 80 people in its Wynberg factory, Turnstar has proved itself a world-leading manufacturer of turnstiles. Its crowning glory arrived last year during the Soccer World Cup when 968 Turnstar turnstiles were installed at eight of the major stadiums and processed over three million ticket holders. This was a step up from the 142 Turnstar turnstiles that processed over 700 000 people in the 2003 Cricket World Cup.

Hi-Tech Security Solutions spoke to assistant director, Craig Sacks about the company and what it has been working on since the world cup. According to Sacks, the company is still on a growth path, delivering turnstiles to mines, factories and warehouses, office buildings, universities and more.

He adds that the company is well respected internationally, to the degree that customers globally pay 100% upfront for Turnstar products, sure they will receive goods of a high standard, on time.

While South Africa is the company’s core market, it has customers throughout Africa, Europe, Australasia, Malaysia and the Middle East.

Professional development

Sacks says Turnstar’s products are all designed by a team of in-house professional engineers and are manufactured in Wynberg, where it is able to produce over 250 turnstiles and vehicle barriers per month. This has resulted in a respected and high-quality product that is sought after the world over. To the company’s benefit is the fact that South Africa has leading expertise in physical security which gives it an advantage over many international competitors.

Looking ahead, the company is continually expanding its manufacturing capabilities with state-of-the-art machinery. This will ensure Turnstar remains a competitive force in the European and Middle Eastern markets.

To learn more about the company, make sure to see the Turnstar stand at IFSEC SA 2011. With a large stand at this year’s exhibition, to be held at Gallagher Estate in Midrand, Turnstar will be demonstrating its latest range of products.
