Honeywell and AST in IT/technology partnership

July 2001 News & Events

A technology partnership between Honeywell's Home & Building Controls Division and JSE-listed IT organisation, the AST Group, is proving itself capable of providing an enhanced service in the design and implementation of smart building technology solutions.

Commenting on the technology partnership between the two organisations, Nico Marais, Managing Director of AST Vaal Triangle, said that the partnership is on a par with current trends in the US and other G7 countries. "During a recent Access 2001 conference in California, a leading IT company delivered a paper on the importance of closer cooperation between IT and technology companies due to the fact that leading edge technology solutions either operate in tandem with existing IT infrastructure or integrate with ERP solutions. It is worth noting that whilst the concept of such technology partnerships are deliberated in the US, AST and Honeywell have already set the standard here in South Africa," he said.

According to Steve Shannon, Divisional Manager of Honeywell Home & Building Controls, high level IT expertise has not traditionally been a strong point in the building technology arena and its related fields. "As a leading South African IT organisation with full SAP implementation capability, AST is able to provide either standalone or fully integrated solutions utilising enterprise systems, Internet and intranet sources to enable intelligent management of facilities, through the application of Honeywell's Enterprise Building Integrator."

The AST Group provides comprehensive and integrated technology-based solutions to a range of commercial and industrial clients. With regards building control and facilities management applications, AST is able to provide total system design and integration for both new and refurbishment projects including consultation, drafting of specifications, estimation and cost analysis, project planning, management and implementation. Honeywell is a manufacturer and supplier of integrated building control systems.
