Q-Park chooses NEDAP AVI

New parking technology from ADI.

Q-Park NV, headquartered in Maastricht, The Netherlands, is a thriving European parking organisation operating in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, UK, France, Ireland and Scandinavia.

In over one hundred of Q-Park’s parking facilities, Nedap AVI’s long range vehicle identification system has been installed to facilitate easy and convenient vehicle access for customers.

The system includes over 800 readers and 80 000 transponders. It is used for charging for parking, hence, it was important for Q-Park to have a reliable supplier. The parking facilities where the system has been installed are characterised by possible lane situations. The Nedap system can effectively read in multilane situations, which was of utmost importance for the projects. The on-site adjustable read range and lane separation which are enabled by the TRANSIT system ensure that all entry/exit situations of the various parking facilities could be covered without impact on performance.

Two types of identifiers/tags are used. First, a transponder – for in-car usage – that provides hands-free access to the parking facilities. Second, a key fob tag to allow pedestrians to re-enter the parking facility. All readers interact with the existing parking management system which has an interface with the central database of Q-Park. Customers have authorised Q-Park to automatically transfer a variable amount from their bank account, depending on the number of parking hours. The tags are personalised for security reasons.

“Based on the long-term cooperation and excellent system performance, we recommend Nedap AVI’s system for long range identification applications, “commented Sacha Oerlemans, corporate director marketing and communications for Q-Park.

New parking access solution

Using the latest in UHF technology, the new uPASS Reach Reader guarantees long range vehicle identification at up to 4 m. Based on the use of battery free, passive UHF transponders, the reader output allows the parking system to open the gate when authorised without the need for card readers or PIN pads. A built-in, high intensity LED provides visual feedback for the user that the tag has been read.

The new uPASS system is a viable, comfortable and cost-effective solution for commercial and residential parking installations such as car parks, gated communities, employee parking access and many more applications. In addition, its integrated fine-tuned antenna and elegant casing makes it ideal for both outdoor and indoor locations.

Nedap’s wireless space count system consists of a wireless network of surface mounted sensors (nodes) designed to recognise vehicle presence within an individual parking space. The Sensit nodes communicate wirelessly, in a daisy chain fashion and can return to the parking management system, a comprehensive, real-time count of an entire parking facility.

With the advent of parking guidance systems both on and off street in large cities worldwide, Sensit is an ideal solution to prevent unnecessary and frustrating searching for a parking space.
