TeleEye secures Bafokeng Stadium roads

July 2010 Surveillance, Surveillance, Entertainment and Hospitality (Industry)

TeleEye and Directech keep a roving eye on the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

TeleEye and solution partner, Directech, successfully supplied and installed a world-class mobile CCTV solution for the remote surveillance of roads around the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg. The project was a joint venture between Impala Platinum and the South African Police Services. The deployment of mobile CCTV trailers and masts around the stadium provides live CCTV images for SAPS control room personnel.

The surveillance system was used for the observation of roads and intersections leading to the Royal Bafokeng Stadium during the 2010 World Cup tournament. The ability to stream live video and control PTZ cameras at the sites from the SAPS control room over mobile networks enabled the SAPS to maintain an effective, co-ordinated police and traffic management solution.

The solution utilises TeleEye equipped vehicle trailers which can be rapidly deployed at required locations at any time during the event, providing the SAPS with the flexibility to deploy CCTV cameras at any desired areas, in a timely manner. The trailers are equipped with the TeleEye RX504 Mobile Video Recording Servers which provide primary and fail-over communication capability utilising either the Vodacom or MTN networks, power equipment, TeleEye fixed and speed dome cameras.

The TeleEye RX504 is a video recording server designed for professional video surveillance and alarm monitoring, including recording and transmission of data via GPRS, EDGE, 3G, HSDPA and HSUPA mobile networks, for vehicle security, fleet management and rapid deployment applications. It provides effective remote monitoring over mobile networks due to its SMAC-M video coder, which provides fast DVD quality images over low-bandwidth and 'bursty' data transmission conditions. The RX504 is optimised for high temperature and high vibration and shock applications, making it ideal for vehicle and rapid deployment surveillance applications. The RX504’s sophisticated BS8418:2003 compliant event management system allows for the protection of both critical components on the trailer and areas around the trailer, with the use of outdoor detectors linked to the unit.

The TeleEye SMAC-M video coder produces five independent data streams, providing high quality video recordings and supporting multiple remote connections for users over differing connection speeds, without compromising one another. With the use of TeleEye M303 mobile monitoring software for GPRS enabled mobile phones, security personnel on the ground can receive live video images on their mobile phones without hampering the remote control room applications.
