Integrated solutions protect fans

GE Security has announced that its technology will be implemented in all of the eight stadia selected to host the FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Overall, the stadia use a mix of security solutions and life safety technologies to protect and enhance the game-day experience for more than 350 000 fans who gather year-round for sporting and entertainment events.

GE Security acted as a technology provider offering tailored integrated high-end product suites for selected stadia. GE provided a wide array of security solutions at the different stadia, including high-end fire detection and evacuation solutions as well as integrated video, access control and intrusion. With the addition of GE Security’s video cameras and monitoring solution which was also installed at selected stadia, stadium security personnel have been able to promptly monitor emergencies and other situations and dispatch the appropriate help, if necessary.

“We are committed to creating a positive experience for fans by helping to deliver safer, more secure stadium environments, which is particularly important for the upcoming tournament competitions, that will draw huge crowds,” said Bart Otten, President of GE Security EMEA.

GE Security and its business partner, Dimension Data, cooperated to provide the full IP security network backbone in use at three venues, including amongst others, the Loftus Versveld Stadium in Pretoria.

“We cooperated with GE Security to assess the best possible security systems to meet the needs and high standards,” said Greg Collyer from Dimension Data’s advanced infrastructure division. “GE Security’s IP solution delivers good image quality and monitoring capabilities required to efficiently manage sports events.”

“We are very pleased with GE Security’s product suite installed at the Loftus Versveld Stadium, allowing security personnel to respond more effectively to potential disruptions thereby improving the overall safety and making the game-day experience more enjoyable for fans,” said Hugo Kemp, Stadium and Events Manager of Loftus Versveld stadium.

In addition to this string of wins in South Africa, GE Security has provided integrated solutions to a variety of sports facilities worldwide, including the Dolphin Stadium in Florida, Commerzbank Arena in Germany and PSV Eindoven in the Netherlands.
