Multibuilding solution

May 2001 Access Control & Identity Management

ControlSoft has added a multibuilding synchronisation module to KeyMaster Pro, the company's flagship access control and asset security solution for large installations. Since its introduction, the ControlSoft Database Synchroniser has been successfully installed at several sites in South Africa and Europe.

ControlSoft's Database Synchroniser add-in enables site-wide access control and reporting across multiple KeyMaster Pro systems. The site's hardware and zone configuration is managed from a central server PC running SQL Server and the 'server side' version of Database Synchroniser. Database Synchroniser 'client side' is installed on each of the other PCs that control local KeyMaster Pro systems. When employee or visitor data is added or changed on one system, the Database Synchroniser automatically updates the central server database, and all the other KeyMaster Pro systems. Full anti-passback and zone control is maintained across all the synchronised sites.

According to Software Engineer David Corder, who did most of the development work on the system, Database Synchroniser offers several advantages when implementing large multibuilding access control systems. "Database Synchroniser makes KeyMaster Pro more modular. It is easier to connect several sites via the corporate LAN infrastructure than to run cabling to controllers distributed over a large area. In areas with a high incidence of electrical storms, Database Synchroniser helps installers to overcome the problem of a whole system going down when one building is struck by lightning."

Database Synchroniser can be used to integrate up to 32 KeyMaster Pro systems. KeyMaster Pro ships with the Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE) SQL Server compatible database engine, which supports up to four KeyMaster Pro workstations being implemented at large sites with high data volumes.
