Elvey takes the plunge into infrastructure provision.

Elvey Security Technologies has launched its SureConnect service to security conscious South Africans. What is different about this new product from Elvey is that it is not an item it can distribute via security installers or integrators, but a service option using cellular technology.

SureConnect cuts out the limitations of wired security implementations, either alarms or CCTV solutions, offering users cellular bandwidth to get their messages through to the right people. This includes video footage to give users and security companies a clear idea of who or what is happening and waiting for them when an alarm is raised.

In launching the product, Jack Edery, CEO of Elvey Security Technologies said: “South Africans have become very security-conscious, determined to reduce their vulnerability as much as possible in the face of ongoing crime. That is why demand for reliable, intelligent, technologically-advanced security systems is higher than ever before.

“Over the past year, the security industry has focused significant time and attention on how best to incorporate IP technology into intruder detection and CCTV products and services. The result is the utilisation of GSM and GPRS wireless data transmission mechanisms that can be configured to existing TCP/IP (transmission control protocol/Internet protocol) networks. This allows for security systems to be monitored via the Internet or on mobile phones instead of using radio frequencies and phone lines which have transmission limitations and deficiencies in dependable signal verification.”

Edery describes SureConnect as a 'signal-clearing house'. What this means is that Elvey has bought cellular bandwidth from the South African providers and is using it exclusively as a routing service for electronic security signals. Using the Internet in conjunction with this guaranteed bandwidth means that when your alarm signal reaches your armed response company, it can also be programmed to alert you on your cellphone anywhere in the world with an SMS, e-mail or MMS containing a video clip.

If the user and monitoring company subscribe to a video service, both parties can actually see what is causing the alarm, empowering the right people to launch the appropriate responses. The benefit for security service providers is that companies can cut out the time and money wasted on false alarms by getting a video of the cause of the alarm.

SureConnect offers users a closed cellular and Internet environment, meaning there will be no traffic holdups due to someone using the available bandwidth for any other reason. When an electronic message needs to go through, it will go through. More than dedicated bandwidth, the system also sports backup power to ensure its operations are uninterrupted in the event of power outages.

“Geared towards a broad target base, SureConnect is a vital part of a turn-key security solution in a variety of applications,” explains Edery. “These include redundancy or back-up systems for companies with full alarm monitoring facilities and infrastructure. It is also ideal for monitoring children at home, staff, factories and offices, retail stores, bank branches, department stores and mines. For entities without fixed lines, where radio frequency coverage is limited or which do not have electricity, it is the perfect solution.”

Users can integrate almost any modern security system into the SureConnect solution, expanding the scope and effectiveness of their protection without requiring they throw their old equipment out and install new products. For dealers, SureConnect offers a 'turnkey solution that can help them identify new sales opportunities, generate income, and up-sell or cross-sell to their existing client bases'.
