SAIS AGM and luncheon

November 2007 News

On 24 August the South African Institute of Security held its 29th Annual General Meeting followed by a luncheon at JP Morgan in Johannesburg.

Francois Marais was elected as chairman of the Board of Governors of the Institute for yet another term. In his chairman's report he reported that the Institute had a successful year with an increase in membership. New members came from as far as Kenya and Guyana in South America. He also welcomed the new governors elected to the Institute Board - Raymond Fihla, Ndaba Ndlovu, Buddy Anderson, Gert Pretorius and John McMullan. Bob Power was elected the new vice-chairman of the Institute.

The AGM was followed by a well-attended luncheon. The guest speaker was the founding chairman of the UK Security Institute, Geoff Whitfield who gave an interesting talk on the UK Institute and professionalism in the British Security Industry. His attendance of the AGM followed the attendance of the UK Institute AGM in London in March, by governors Terry Scallan and Errol Peace. A healthy relationship had now been established between the two Institutes.

Honorary membership was bestowed on the Institute administration manager Rosemary Cowan and Dawood Alexander, chairman of the Security Standard Generating Body of SAQA. Retiring governor Eric Magnus was awarded life membership of the Institute.
