High quality compact embedded DVRs

July 2005 Surveillance

The E-P2 series is a range of high quality embedded digital video recorders.

Two different models are currently available, one a compact micro unit which has a 2,5" laptop HDD and a larger model with a removable 3,5" HDD Bay. The Micro unit is better suited to covert applications due to its small size and the Mobi unit to any application requiring a small 4-channel DVR. For applications which require large amounts of video to be transferred from the camera location to the playback location, the Mobi model is best suited.

Each unit features four realtime PAL/NTSC video input channels and an S-Video or PAL/NTSC video output. Unlike other DVRs, these units feature 25 fps realtime recording and monitoring per channel. Recording can be done in realtime or downgraded from 25 fps down to 0,1 fps. Several recording modes can be chosen from, including continuous, manual or event recording (alarm or motion).

These units feature a special form of motion detection called IDSM. With IDSM, the image is analysed for change and only the change of the image is recorded. Operation of the unit is Simplex. Recording is stopped when video is played back. Video is recorded onto the internal HDD and can be backed up to the CompactFlash socket (E-P2-Mobi only) or the HDD removed. Video can be played back at various speeds, in reverse or forward and in quad or single camera mode.

Remote networking is well supported allowing transmission of video over TCP/IP. Each DVR comes included with remote networking software, as well as an application allowing playback direct from the HDD.

This is useful if the user wants to remove the HDD from the embedded DVR and replay the information on a normal PC. Live video can be monitored across the network and images of a few minutes prior to the event can be replayed.

Both units are housed in solid metal enclosures and have front panel controls. The Mobi model operates off 12~30 V d.c. and the Micro model off 5 V d.c. All models come included with power supplies and have standard 2,1 mm DC power sockets.
