On 3 and 4 November, the Scandic Hotel Ermitage in Copenhagen, Denmark, played host to the Sectech show, organised by AR Media International and the International Stockholm Fair. On the opening day, a well-attended celebration dinner was held to announce the winners of the prestigious 2004 Detektor International Awards.

The awards were introduced five years ago to honour those invaluable products and manufacturers that have contributed particularly innovative, original and/or new technological designs and developments to the security industry.

There is no way to apply for being selected as a nominated company or product since this independent award is based on what has been published by AR Media International through its magazine, Detektor International, and its online news portal in the last 12 months. As an independent product prize, the Detektor International Award is certainly a unique recognition in the security industry.

In order to demonstrate this prestige, the prizes themselves, in addition to being a gesture of recognition, are specially commissioned works of art, designed and produced by Bertil Vallien, one of the world's leading art glass designers.

The nominations were chosen from the vast array of products introduced to the industry over the last 12 months. The short listed finalists were named at the recent SKYDD show in Stockholm, and from there the Detektor International panel of judges (nine professionals from five different countries, related to the editorial board of Detektor) selected a 'Best Product', a 'Highly Commended' and an 'Innovative Achievement' product in each of the three categories - CCTV, Access Control and Alarm Products. The prize winners were each presented with an Awards Certificate and flowers at the ceremony.

In the Alarms category, it was Optex that took the Best Product Award for the AX350 and 650 DH Series of Active Beams.

The next Detektor International Awards will be presented on 25 October 2005 at Quality Hotel Globe in Stockholm.

Elvey Security Technologies is the sole distributor of Optex products in South Africa.
