iGuard fingerprint access control and T&A systems

October 2004 Access Control & Identity Management

The latest biometric fingerprint solution from iGuard SA offers a simple solution to access control and time and attendance needs.

Installation consists of mounting it on a wall, connecting it to an electronic lock on a door, plugging in some power and an Ethernet cable.

The system overcomes problems like forgotten passwords, 'buddy punching' or gaining access by using someone else's access card and secure access control is assured with the use of Veridicom's latest solid-state capacitive fingerprint reader that uses the natural capacitance of a live finger to authenticate a user and allow access.

Patented web-server technology turns iGuard into an IP addressable unit on any Ethernet network, allowing multiple iGuards to be linked across a local or wide area network with no additional hardware requirements. iGuard can be configured as a standalone device, which is practical for small or home office situations, or it can be used in multi-access point environments for corporations with office branches in various locations.

Current installations in one of SA's largest fast food chains allow the franchise owner to access realtime data on the iGuard from the comfort of his home to check on the time and attendance of his staff. This ease of use, coupled with affordability, makes iGuard's entry level solution (an access control unit only) ideal for low budget situations.

iGuard hosts its own password protected Web-pages, so users can address one unit or multiple units on a network using any standard web-browser, making it totally indifferent to whether use is made of PCs, Unix machines or even Apple Macs. The administrator can just type in iGuard's IP address and see who arrived at work and at what time. All administration, creation and editing of employees, users, departments, access control times and time and attendance is controlled by the administrator using these built-in Web pages.

With upgrade functionality, an entry-level standalone system that provides access control only can be expanded into a fully networked time and attendance system to meet higher demands, without requiring the purchase of costly additional hardware or software.

Full export of access and time/attendance data into .txt or .xls format allows users to import realtime data into virtually any popular payroll or HR package, making payroll easy.
