Senstar-Stellar protects Costa Rican business park

November 2000 Perimeter Security, Alarms & Intruder Detection

Senstar-Stellar's IntelliFLEX is being used by a 30 acre (12 hectares) Costa Rican business park in Santa Ana (just outside the capital of San Jose) to protect the offices of high-profile businesses such as ESSO Standard Oil, SA Chiquita Brands and Cisco Systems.

"It was very important for us to make sure that the tenants could move into a secure atmosphere from the moment they arrived at the industrial park until they got out of their vehicles and entered their offices," affirms engineer Manuel Freer, Manager of Crupo Genesis, the real estate company involved in the project.

"Although fortunately we are in a tranquil zone, the responsibility of offering a secure atmosphere to companies such as this makes us convinced that it is better not to leave anything to chance," adds Hugo Pineda, President of Servi-Alarms SA, the installing dealer.

Since its installation a little over a year ago, the Senstar-Stellar system has detected and sounded an alarm each of the four times unauthorised entrances were attempted. IntelliFLEX is a fence-mounted microphonic sensor that utilises signals generated by the minute flexing of the coaxial cable to detect an intruder cutting through, climbing on or lifting fence fabric. A programmable microprocessor enables the user to set the operating parameters for each specified zone, resulting in independent alarm processing which optimises detection and minimises false alarms.

According to Pineda, if someone comes to cut the fence, the resonance of the cutting or the click of the pliers is detected by the microphonic wire running along the fence. Immediately following detection, a signal is sent to the control panel in the security office and an alarm is sounded.

"One of the great advantages of the Senstar-Stellar system is that it has several calibration levels," emphasises Pineda. "Each zone, which in this case corresponds to a section of the fence, can be calibrated in different ways, according to the conditions of the area." This allows for greater flexibility in installation and monitoring.

Senstar-Stellar is part of Senstar-Stellar Corporation and the Magal Group and has operations in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and Mexico.
