November 2000 Perimeter Security, Alarms & Intruder Detection

Lenel Systems International has announced that its OnGuard Multi-Server Enterprise solution will be installed at Biogen's principal locations worldwide. Biogen, a global biotechnology company headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA will convert its largest legacy access control system and upgrade another existing OnGuard security system to the OnGuard Multi-Server Enterprise.

Barry Security of Boston was selected as the OnGuard value-added reseller of choice to lead the effort and coordinate the installation in the seven buildings at Biogen headquarters. "It is especially rewarding to have an existing customer upgrade and become an Enterprise customer," stated Elena Prokupets, president and CEO of Lenel Systems International. "It is the most direct form of validation of the excellence of our products and our commitment to customer service."

Biogen's location in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, currently has an OnGuard 64NTI access control, ID management and alarm monitoring system. The design of OnGuard Enterprise allows Biogen to set up regions for security that are conducive to their geographical footprint. Each OnGuard Enterprise Region has full access control, ID badging, and alarm monitoring capabilities. The Cambridge Region will control over 150 card readers and feature anti-passback access control in the lobbies. This region also includes a brand new control centre for monitoring access control activity, which was not done previously.

The European Region will connect all the major European locations, each with access control, ID badging, and alarm monitoring similar to the US regions. Each site will have an 8-channel Lenel digital video recorder (LDVR). This gives Biogen the functionality to seamlessly associate video to events in the system. Vision Security Systems of Sittingbourne, Kent, was selected as the OnGuard value-added reseller of choice to lead the effort for the European roll-out.

Russ Bouchard, Biogen's security director, said, "After evaluating our options, we concluded that upgrading the existing Lenel OnGuard system to a Multi-Server Enterprise system was the best global solution for us. We look forward to the implementation of this cutting-edge system that will help ensure the safety and security of Biogen employees around the world."
