Integration is the solution for total security

May 2003 Integrated Solutions

When looking at the variety of security threats that face today’s companies, integration is the watchword. Making use of the wide variety of security products, it is possible to put an integrated system together that is both easy to manage and that addresses the security needs of a client.

Gunnebo Security SA understands and as a result it offers a wide range of tailored and sophisticated electronic and physical security solutions for business. Gunnebo Security SA is a wholly owned subsidiary of Gunnebo AB, an international security group and world leader in physical security with offices in 32 countries serving customers in 150 countries worldwide. Gunnebo specialises in integrated security solutions including asset protection, perimeter security, entrance control, bank security, electronic security and related fields.

The company's client base includes leading banking and financial institutions, the mining industry, government institutions and corporate clients. With its eye firmly on integrated security solutions, Gunnebo Security SA, together with Guardall in South Africa and Tactus in the UK, has developed a fully integrated system known as Caretaker.

Advanced access portal

Caretaker is an advanced programmable access portal allowing remote access and control of live and stored video, on-site security and services. This system offers video features such as video capture and digital recording, video motion detection, local video display and control and remote access to video. It also supports video archiving.

Caretaker is able to integrate a number of systems, ensuring that its coverage is extremely wide and giving it the edge in corporate security. This includes intruder alarms, access control equipment, CCTV, fire equipment and building management.

When it comes to interfaces, the versatile Caretaker system has the following:

* 100 BaseT LAN.

* 4-16 video inputs.

* Four RS232 ports.

* Internal or external modem.

* PSTN phone line.

* Opto-isolated inputs.

* Relay contact outputs.

* Video monitor o/p.

* Audio inputs and outputs.

* Alarm panel control and monitoring.

* Pan tilt zoom control.

* Interactive voice response system.

* LON works interface.

* Web server and e-mail.

Communication

Caretaker communicates in a number of ways, including via PC on LAN or WAN. It also communicates via a PC on a direct dial system, or even via the Internet, via mobile phone by text, speech or browser or via a landline phone using touch tone or speech. Caretaker can also communicate via a PDA on GSM, GPRS or even wireless LAN.

Its applications are suitable for a wide range of businesses, and Caretaker can be deployed for verification of an alarm from outside the premises by the owner, by the monitoring centre, as well as essential intruder verification for police attendance.

Caretaker is smart enough to simulate human presence in the premises, meaning it acts as a deterrent to vandalism. It can also perform a number of regular automation tasks, such as turning appliances on or off, and Caretaker can be set up to undertake the surveillance of staff.

It is a system that offers a number of clear benefits for the installer. As well as connecting to any company's existing equipment (including security systems, CCTV and communication structures), Caretaker is conveniently maintained by remote channels via a modem or the Internet. In addition, because it operates on a remote management system, site visits by the installer are reduced.

Gunnebo offers full training support with Caretaker, as well as full documentation for the system. It also comes together with an on-line software diagnostic and upgrade process.
