On Thursday 12 September the ESDA members had their Annual General Meeting at the Gables Hotel School in Braamfontein.
Over a three course silver service luncheon a quorum of members voted for the new ESDA committee for 2003. Mags Anthony from Panasonic was voted as chairman for 2003. Paul Wainstein from Elvey was elected as vice chairman. Richard Rohman from Centurion Systems will be the treasurer and Graham Wild from Keep Access and Niall Beazley from Vision Catcher were nominated as members.
In his resignation speech, Anthony Rosenbaum, chairman of ESDA for 2002 thanked all those that have helped to grow the association in the last year and encouraged the members to continue in their support of the Association and continue to stand together for the betterment of the association and the industry. As outgoing chairman, Rosenbaum will still be involved in pursuing negotiations with SIRA and will be a member of the committee for the next year.
The ESDA committee has been a major driving force in increasing the awareness about what the association is doing for its members and the industry. This year ESDA has been actively raising the standard of professionalism in the electronic security industry. ESDA has held several workshops for its members to help create awareness on relevant issues such as the benefit of training and reaping the benefits from the SETA.
ESDA has been at the forefront of the issue that has impacted the electronic security industry drastically over the last couple of months, the registration with SIRA. Anthony Rosenbaum, Paul Wainstein, Leon Le Roux, have been negotiating with SIRA on behalf of ESDA members with remarkable success. The Registration date for members of the electronic security industry has been extended to 1 December 2002. And negotiations are in progress regarding the training requirements for registration. This was all the result of the industry standing together.
